Headline: Israeli Prime Minister Warns of Potential Military Action Against Yemen’s Houthi Movement
In a recent development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a strong warning to President Biden, indicating that Israel will not hesitate to take military action against Yemen’s Houthi movement if the United States fails to step in.
The Houthi group, which is known to be aligned with Iran, has increasingly posed a threat to Israeli and U.S. forces in the Middle East, particularly since the onset of Israel’s war with Hamas. The group has been involved in various acts of aggression, including harassing Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab strait.
Tzachi Hanegbi, Israel’s national security chief of staff, expressed concerns over the Houthi group’s attacks, which have included launching ballistic missiles and armed drones at Israel. These attacks intensified further after three commercial vessels were targeted in the Red Sea. To counter the threat, a U.S. warship successfully shot down several drones launched by the Houthis.
Adding to the escalating tensions, the Houthi group recently seized a British-owned cargo ship that had connections to an Israeli company. This prompted the United States’ Treasury Department to impose sanctions on 13 individuals and entities responsible for funding the Houthis in Yemen.
While Houthi officials claim their actions are in support of the Palestinians, Israel strongly condemns these attacks as acts of Iranian terrorism that threaten international maritime security. Israeli officials argue that the Houthi movement’s aggression goes beyond political motivations and poses a genuine threat to regional stability.
In response to Israel’s concerns, the Houthi military spokesperson issued a warning that any ships bound for Israeli ports in the Red Sea will become targets, unless necessary supplies are provided to Gaza.
As tensions rise in the region, the international community is closely monitoring the situation. Analysts fear that failure to address this escalating conflict could potentially have severe consequences for regional stability and peace.
