Actress Olivia Munn recently shocked fans by revealing her breast cancer diagnosis in an emotional Instagram post. The 42-year-old star disclosed that despite taking a genetic test in February 2023 which showed no cancer genes, she was diagnosed with breast cancer just two months later.
Munn, known for her roles in movies and TV shows like “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “The Newsroom,” has undergone four surgeries in the past ten months, including a double mastectomy after a biopsy revealed Luminal B cancer in both breasts. The actress decided to keep her diagnosis private until now, choosing to focus on her treatment and recovery.
It was OBGYN Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi who calculated Munn’s breast cancer risk assessment score, ultimately leading to the discovery of her cancer. Now, Munn is urging women to ask their doctors to calculate their own risk assessment scores to potentially catch any cancer early on.
In her post, Munn expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of her friends, family, and healthcare providers throughout her journey. She also thanked her partner, comedian John Mulaney, for his care and support during her treatment.
As she continues on her path to recovery, Munn’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection and the need for regular screenings. Her bravery in sharing her journey may inspire others to prioritize their health and seek medical guidance when needed.
