In a tragic bus crash in South Africa, an eight-year-old girl miraculously survived after the bus she was traveling in plunged off a bridge into a ravine. The crash resulted in the deaths of 45 out of 46 passengers on board, with many bodies burned beyond recognition and still trapped inside the vehicle.
The driver of the bus allegedly lost control and crashed through barriers on a bridge in a mountainous area near Mamatlakala. The bus was en route from Botswana to Moria for an Easter festival when the accident occurred.
South Africa’s Transport Minister has promised a full inquiry into the crash, as the country has one of the worst safety records on roads in the African continent. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has sent condolences to Botswana and promised support in the aftermath of the tragedy.
Family members of the victims are making arrangements to visit the surviving girl in the hospital. Estonian President Alar Karis and the Turkish embassy in Gaborone have also offered condolences to Botswana and the families affected by the crash.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of travel on South African roads and the need for stricter regulations and enforcement to prevent such tragedies in the future. Our hearts go out to all those affected by this devastating event.
