Caitlin Clark makes history with third consecutive AP All-America team selection
Caitlin Clark has solidified her place in women’s college basketball history by being named to The Associated Press All-America team for the third consecutive year. The Iowa standout becomes just the 11th player to achieve this honor three times, showcasing her exceptional talent and skill on the court.
Joining Clark on the first team are impressive players such as Stanford’s Cameron Brink, UConn’s Paige Bueckers, and freshmen JuJu Watkins of USC and Hannah Hidalgo of Notre Dame. Watkins and Hidalgo make their mark as only the fourth and fifth freshmen to make the AP team since its inception in 1994-95, following in the footsteps of legendary players like Courtney Paris and Maya Moore.
Clark, who led the nation in scoring with an impressive 31.9 points per game and led in assists with 8.9, becomes the first Division I player to achieve consecutive 1,000-point seasons. Meanwhile, Watkins and Hidalgo made waves in their own right with standout performances in their freshman seasons, including Watkins’ 810 points and Hidalgo’s stellar all-around game.
Other notable players recognized in the All-America selections include standout performers like Elizabeth Kitley, who earned ACC player of the year honors for the third straight season, and players on the third team like Alissa Pili of Utah, Daisha Fair of Syracuse, and Reagan Beers of Oregon State.
The AP All-America team serves as a testament to the exceptional talent and skill displayed by these outstanding athletes throughout the season, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting future for women’s college basketball.
