The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently investigating a multistate outbreak of E. coli linked to raw cheddar cheese from the brand Raw Farm. So far, at least 10 people in four different states have fallen ill, with four individuals requiring hospitalization and one person developing kidney failure.
Raw Farm, out of an abundance of caution, has issued a recall of their cheddar cheese products, even though none of their products have tested positive for E. coli. Despite this, the outbreak is not thought to be limited to just these states. Retail partners have already removed the affected products from their shelves, but there is still a possibility that some may remain for sale.
Consumers are being urged to avoid eating, selling, or serving any Raw Farm raw cheddar cheese until the investigation is complete. This is not the first time that Raw Farm products have been associated with contamination, as there were previous recalls for salmonella infections last year.
The CDC continues to work diligently to determine the source of the E. coli outbreak and prevent further illnesses. In the meantime, it is crucial for individuals to follow the recall guidelines and prioritize their health and safety. Stay tuned for updates on this developing situation.
