Former U.S. Rep. George Santos is making headlines once again, this time for filing a lawsuit against late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, ABC, and Walt Disney Co. Santos alleges that he was deceived into creating videos on the Cameo app, which were later used to ridicule him on Kimmel’s show.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. district court for the southern district of New York, accuses Kimmel of misrepresenting himself to Santos in order to convince him to make personalized videos. These videos were then featured on a segment called “Will Santos Say It?” on Kimmel’s show starting in December.
Santos claims that Kimmel submitted requests on Cameo using fake names and narratives, which ultimately led to Santos being mocked on national television. Seeking $750,000 in statutory damages for the five videos aired on the show and shared on social media, Santos also looks to recover other damages that will be determined at trial.
Santos, who was expelled from the House of Representatives and faces criminal charges such as fraud and stealing from donors, pleaded not guilty to a revised indictment in October. This legal battle comes on the heels of Democrat Tom Suozzi winning a special election for Santos’ former seat on Tuesday.
The lawsuit against Kimmel, ABC, and Walt Disney Co. adds another layer to the ongoing controversy surrounding Santos. As the legal proceedings unfold, the public waits to see how this case will impact Santos’ already tarnished political reputation. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
