Meta, the parent company of Instagram, is introducing new tools on the popular social media platform to give users more control over spam content and bots on their feeds. As the number of Instagram users continues to grow, so does the presence of spam accounts and unwanted content. To combat this issue, Instagram has developed a range of features that will be gradually rolled out in the coming weeks.
One of the major improvements is the enhancement of Instagram’s automated detection system for spam. This system will now target not only comments but also tags, story views, and followers. By doing so, Instagram aims to flag fake followers and spam-filled content, enabling users to easily delete them in bulk.
Furthermore, suspected spam or bot accounts will be filtered into a separate inbox for users to review. This will help users identify and take necessary actions against such accounts, ensuring a cleaner and more genuine Instagram experience. Meanwhile, accounts that are not identified as spam can be approved and added to the following list. On the other hand, all other accounts will be automatically removed after 30 days.
In addition, posts by accounts tagged as spam will no longer appear on the content creators’ accounts unless approved. This will prevent spam content from cluttering users’ feeds and provide an additional layer of security against unwanted material.
Account holders will now have the ability to view, bulk delete, or approve any tag requests flagged by the system. This feature allows users to have better control over the tags associated with their accounts, ensuring that only relevant and authentic content is attached to their profiles.
To maintain the platform’s integrity, Instagram will send in-app notifications if posts violate content policies. This will serve as a reminder to users to adhere to the platform’s guidelines and prevent the dissemination of inappropriate content.
Recently, Instagram implemented a feature that shows when posts are blocked from appearing on the Explore page. This enhancement ensures that spam accounts and posts do not infiltrate the Explore page, which is a popular destination for users to discover new content and accounts.
Additionally, Instagram is experimenting with hiding views from accounts deemed as spam in Stories. This measure aims to discourage and limit the reach of spam accounts, ultimately creating a safer and more enjoyable environment for users.
With these new tools and improvements, Instagram is taking proactive steps to tackle spam and unwanted content on its platform. By providing users with more control and protection, Instagram aims to enhance the overall user experience while maintaining the authenticity of its community.
