After 24 years, St. John’s Red Storm finally ended their Big East Tournament futility with a commanding 91-72 win over Seton Hall. This victory marks the first time St. John’s has made it to the semifinals since 2000. The team’s sixth consecutive win has likely secured them a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019.
The Red Storm’s victory was celebrated by players and fans alike as they now look forward to facing second-ranked Connecticut in the semifinals. Coach Rick Pitino expressed his team’s determination to try and win the Big East crown.
St. John’s displayed a strong performance, winning the battle on the glass, dominating the paint, and shooting an impressive 52% from the field. Key contributions from Ivy League transfers Jordan Dingle and Chris Ledlum helped secure the win.
RJ Luis led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Joel Soriano had a double-double with 14 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Seton Hall’s Al-Amir Dawes scored 22 points, but his teammates were held in check by the Red Storm’s defense.
The atmosphere at Madison Square Garden was electric, with chants of “Let’s go Johnnies” filling the arena. St. John’s fans are now eagerly awaiting their team’s next game as they continue their impressive run in the tournament.
