In a tragic turn of events, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck the east coast of Taiwan, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The quake resulted in the deaths of nine individuals and injured over 1,000 people. Additionally, at least 50 individuals are currently missing, as reported by local authorities.
The tremors caused by the earthquake triggered nine landslides, resulting in debris collapsing onto Suhua Highway in Hualien. This has led to numerous individuals being trapped in two road tunnels along the highway, with rescue teams working tirelessly to reach them. In a separate incident, a 6-magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Honshu, Japan, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. This event has further exacerbated the situation in the region, underscoring the urgent need for swift and coordinated response efforts.
