The season finale of True Detective: Night Country has proven to be a massive success, drawing in the largest first-night audience of the season. The closing episode brought in an impressive 3.2 million cross-platform viewers, making it the most-watched episode of the season.
Night Country has now become the most-watched season of True Detective so far, with an average of 12.7 million viewers per episode since the premiere. The audience for Night Country continued to grow over the course of six episodes, with the finale drawing about 57 percent more viewers than the premiere. Compared to the season three finale in February 2019, the season finale of Night Country was up 55 percent.
In addition, the season finale of True Detective: Night Country is ahead of the viewership for season two of The White Lotus and the final season of Succession. The high mark for any HBO series since Game of Thrones ended belongs to The Last of Us.
On CBS, the season premiere of Tracker drew 6.64 million viewers, building on its lead-in from Equalizer. However, American Idol’s season premiere on ABC declined by about 16 percent from last year’s debut.
Lastly, the People’s Choice Awards on NBC garnered 2.91 million viewers, not including a simulcast on E! Complete broadcast ratings for Sunday will be available later in the week, but it is clear that True Detective: Night Country has been a standout success in terms of viewership.
