Apple Unveils New Accessibility Features for iPad and iPhone to Celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day
Tech giant Apple has announced a range of new accessibility features for its products, aimed at making technology more inclusive for all users. The updates, which include Eye Tracking, Music Haptics, Vocal Shortcuts, Vehicle Motion Cues, and more, were revealed as part of Apple’s events throughout May in celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day.
With Eye Tracking, users with physical disabilities will be able to control their iPad or iPhone with just their eyes, opening up new possibilities for those who may have limited mobility. Music Haptics offers a unique way for users who are deaf or hard of hearing to experience music by utilizing the Taptic Engine in the iPhone to convey vibrations. Vocal Shortcuts allow users to perform tasks by making custom sounds, providing a hands-free option for interacting with their devices.
In addition to these features, Apple announced updates to visionOS that will enhance accessibility, including Live Captions and support for additional Made for iPhone hearing devices. CarPlay will also see new accessibility features such as Voice Control, Color Filters, and Sound Recognition, catering to users who are blind or have low vision, users with physical disabilities, and those at risk of losing their ability to speak.
Furthermore, Apple is dedicated to promoting inclusivity and accessibility across its products, with a focus on pushing the boundaries of technology to make their devices accessible to everyone. Users can take part in Apple’s events throughout May, where they can access sessions in select Apple Store locations, explore curated collections, and discover apps and content that promote access and inclusion.
