The siege on Gaza’s al-Shifa Hospital, the largest in the Gaza Strip, has entered its third day, with the Israeli military claiming to have killed 90 people during their raid. Survivors have recounted harsh detentions, humiliation, and abuse, with Hamas condemning the Israeli military’s actions as a “bloody massacre.”
Before the attack, al-Shifa Hospital was housing over 7,000 patients and displaced people. The Israeli military claimed they interrogated 300 suspects and detained over 160 people, bringing them to Israel for further investigation. Gaza’s government media office director denied claims of fighters being among the dead, stating those killed were wounded patients and displaced individuals.
Displaced Palestinians described their detentions during the siege, with one woman sharing the difficulties she faced during her forced discharge from the hospital. At least 27 people were killed in an Israeli attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp, with a majority of them being displaced individuals and children.
Other refugee camps, including Bureij, were also targeted by Israeli strikes, resulting in more casualties. The refugee camps in Gaza date back to 1948 when Palestinians were driven from their homes during the war surrounding the creation of Israel. The raids on these camps have sparked international condemnation, with calls for an immediate ceasefire and protection for civilians in the region. The situation in Gaza remains tense as the conflict escalates, with no immediate resolution in sight.
