Renowned author J.K. Rowling, best known for creating the magical world of Harry Potter, is facing backlash from some of the franchise’s cast members over her controversial anti-transgender views.
In a recent statement, Rowling responded to criticism from “Harry Potter” stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, expressing that she does not feel safe forgiving them. Radcliffe and Watson, along with Rupert Grint, have shown support for the transgender community, with both actors reasserting that trans women are women.
While Grint has expressed gratitude for Rowling’s work, he has made it clear that he disagrees with her views. On the other hand, Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed the infamous Voldemort in the film series, has defended Rowling, stating that he does not understand the criticism directed at her.
Rowling has been under fire for her anti-trans statements since 2019, with her most recent controversy involving her challenge to Scotland’s new hate crime law by listing trans women as men, including a convicted rapist. Despite the backlash, Police Scotland announced that they would not be taking action against Rowling’s comments on the hate crime law.
The author’s troubles also extend to British TV personality India Willoughby, who reported Rowling to U.K. law enforcement for misgendering her on social media. Last year, Rowling addressed the criticism she’s received on a podcast, acknowledging potential backlash from fans.
As the rift between Rowling and some of the “Harry Potter” cast continues to deepen, fans are left wondering about the future of the beloved franchise in light of these controversies.
