Counting of Votes Begins in Crucial Heartland and Southern State Elections
The much-awaited counting of votes for three crucial heartland states and a key southern state has commenced today. The state in focus is Telangana, where the Congress party is potentially poised to form a government for the first time, as per exit polls.
The electoral landscape of Telangana presents a three-way clash between the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Congress, and BJP. BRS, which is seeking to retain power for a third consecutive term, is facing stiff competition from Congress, which is determined to establish its first government in the state. BRS has fielded candidates in all 119 seats, while Congress has given one seat to its ally CPI. BJP and Janasena have contested in a pre-poll pact.
According to the Poll of Polls, Congress is predicted to win 62 seats, bringing BRS down to 44 seats. The BJP-Jana Sena alliance is expected to secure 7 seats, while AIMIM may clinch 5 seats out of the total 119 seats in the state.
Early trends indicate wins for K P Vivekanand of BRS from the Quthbullapur seat and Laxmi Kantha Rao of Congress from the Jukkal seat. Additionally, AIMIM is leading in six out of the nine constituencies it contested.
BJP candidate A Maheswar Reddy has emerged victorious from the Nirmal constituency, while Congress candidate Gedam Vinod has won from the Bellampally seat. Malla Reddy of BRS has secured a win in the Medchal constituency.
The latest trends reveal that Congress is leading in 65 seats, BRS in 40 seats, BJP in 9 seats, and AIMIM in 3 seats. However, several BRS ministers are trailing in the election.
Congress candidates are currently leading in 53 seats, while BRS is leading in 18 seats. BJP holds a lead in 6 seats, and AIMIM is leading in 1. Meanwhile, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has a slight advantage in the Gajwel constituency, while BJP’s Raja Singh is ahead in the Goshamahal constituency.
Crossing the halfway mark, Congress has secured 63 seats, leaving BRS with 26 seats. BJP has gained 10 seats, and AIMIM currently holds 2 seats.
It is expected that each round of vote counting will take approximately 30 minutes. The results for constituencies with low voter turnout will be determined quickly, while those with a large number of voters may take some time to finalize. The outcome of these elections will undoubtedly shape the political landscape in Telangana and set the stage for the upcoming general elections.
