Title: Michigan State University Football Coach Denies Sexual Harassment Allegations
In a recent development, Michigan State University football coach Mel Tucker has vehemently denied the sexual harassment allegations made against him by Brenda Tracy. Tucker acknowledges having an “intimate, adult relationship” with Tracy but asserts that the university’s investigation into the matter has been unfair and biased. He believes that the investigation is being used as a ploy to terminate his lucrative contract with the university.
Tracy reported the allegations to the university in December, prompting an investigation into Tucker’s conduct. According to USA Today, this investigation was completed in July, and a Title IX hearing is scheduled for early October. Tracy has accused Tucker of sexual harassment, including making inappropriate comments and engaging in unwanted phone sex. Tucker, on the other hand, claims that the phone sex was consensual.
Following the allegations, Tucker has been suspended without pay by MSU Athletic Director Alan Haller. MSU interim President Teresa Woodruff has stated that neither she nor the Board of Trustees were aware that Tracy was the complainant until July. They only learned the specifics of her allegations through the USA Today article.
The university maintains that the investigation into Tucker is actively ongoing. Tucker’s lawyer alleges that Tracy’s attorney stated Tucker should not lose his job over the allegations, but a substantial sum of money would be necessary to make the issue go away.
Tucker accuses Tracy of distorting their personal relationship in an attempt to advance her own career and harm his reputation. As part of the investigation, MSU hired Ann Arbor Title IX attorney Rebecca Leitman Veidlinger, who previously worked in Title IX offices for both MSU and the University of Michigan.
To ensure transparency, a separate outside Title IX attorney, hired by the university, will oversee a hearing in October. The hearing aims to determine whether Tucker violated any school rules.
As the investigation unfolds, both Tucker and Tracy’s reputations hang in the balance. The MSU community eagerly awaits the outcome of the Title IX hearing, hoping for a fair and just resolution to this controversy.
