Target is shaking up their self-checkout lanes with a new policy set to launch on Sunday, March 17. The retail giant will be limiting the number of items customers can have in these lanes to 10 items or less in an effort to streamline the checkout process.
The new Express Self-Checkout lanes will be rolled out at nearly all of Target’s 2,000 stores across the country. This change comes on the heels of successful pilot tests that showed a quicker checkout experience for customers with a limited number of items.
To accommodate customers with larger carts or those who prefer assistance from staff, Target will be opening more staffed checkout lanes. This move is aimed at improving customer satisfaction and convenience.
Target’s decision to revamp their self-checkout strategy comes as other retailers, such as Walmart and Dollar General, are also exploring changes to enhance the customer experience and reduce losses. A recent survey revealed that two-thirds of retailers are facing increased losses through self-checkout systems.
Customers who want to stay in the loop with Target’s latest updates and announcements can sign up for the retailer’s trending newsletter. With these changes, Target is aiming to make the shopping experience more efficient and enjoyable for all customers.
