The controversial BBC Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew, which made headlines in 2019, is now being turned into a Netflix movie titled “Scoop.” Starring Rufus Sewell as the disgraced Duke of York and Gillian Anderson as journalist Emily Maitlis, the drama is set to be released on April 5.
Sewell, who plays Prince Andrew in the movie, confessed that he initially had doubts about accepting the role due to the stress it brought. The interview with Maitlis was conducted to investigate Prince Andrew’s friendship with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, which ultimately led to accusations of sex-trafficking by Epstein victim Virginia Roberts Giuffre.
In 2022, Prince Andrew reached a settlement in Giuffre’s sex abuse lawsuit against him, reportedly for $12 million. “Scoop” will provide viewers with different perspectives on the events surrounding the interview and its aftermath.
The cast and crew of the movie were amazed by Sewell’s transformation into Prince Andrew, with many commenting on his uncanny resemblance to the royal. Additionally, a TV series titled “A Very Royal Scandal,” based on the Newsnight interview, is also in the works for future release.
The upcoming Netflix movie is sure to spark interest and controversy as it delves into the events that surrounded Prince Andrew’s friendship with Epstein and the fallout from the scandal. Don’t miss out on the drama when it hits screens this April.
