In a strategic move to bolster its artificial intelligence efforts, Microsoft has announced the appointment of Mustafa Suleyman, a Google DeepMind cofounder, to lead its AI division. This restructuring, led by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, is seen as a direct response to competitors like Google in the AI space.
Suleyman will be responsible for overseeing all of Microsoft’s consumer AI products and research, including popular services like Copilot, Bing, and Edge. This move comes after Suleyman left Google in 2022 to launch his own AI startup, Inflection AI, which successfully raised over $1 billion in funding last year.
In a memo sent to employees, Nadella outlined his ambitious vision for Microsoft’s AI future and emphasized the significant role Suleyman will play in achieving those goals. Additionally, Suleyman will be joined by his Inflection AI team members, including cofounder Karรฉn Simonyan, who will also be making the transition to Microsoft.
Nadella has recently praised Google’s capabilities in AI, acknowledging the talent and resources at their disposal. By bringing Suleyman on board, Microsoft hopes to strengthen its position in the AI market and continue to innovate in this rapidly evolving field. Stay tuned for more updates on Microsoft’s AI advancements as Suleyman takes the helm of this critical division.
