Rochester, NY to Experience Total Solar Eclipse on April 8
Rochester, NY is gearing up for a once-in-a-lifetime event on April 8, as the city prepares for a total solar eclipse that is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors. The science behind the eclipse, known as the Purkinje effect, will not only darken the sky but also alter the way viewers perceive colors. Reds and yellows are expected to appear faded, while greens and blues will appear brighter.
To enhance the viewing experience, experts are recommending that viewers wear red and green colors during the eclipse, especially in group settings or public venues. Neutral colors like black, white, and grey should be avoided as they may blend in with the eclipse’s shadow.
Various events will be taking place throughout the city to celebrate the eclipse, including special activities at the Seneca Park Zoo, Genesee Country Village & Museum, Rochester Museum & Science Center, and the Rochester Public Market. Additionally, restaurants and bars across Rochester will be hosting events for both locals and visitors to enjoy during the eclipse.
For more information on how to make the most of this rare event, individuals are encouraged to reach out to New York State Team consumer advocate reporter Emily Barnes at [email protected] or on Twitter @byemilybarnes.
