Microsoft’s AI-powered assistant, Copilot, is making its way to Windows 10 systems as part of the Insider Program. Initially introduced in September, Copilot was available with Windows 11 22H2 but is now enabled by default on Windows 11 23H2 devices.
For customers who want to test Copilot on Windows 10 22H2 devices, they can enroll in the Windows Insider Program for Business Release Preview Channel. The rollout to Windows 10 systems will be gradual, taking several months to reach devices running Home and unmanaged Pro editions of Windows 10 22H2.
To participate in early Copilot testing, users with eligible Windows 10 22H2 devices can opt-in by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and activating the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” toggle.
Copilot in Windows is currently available as a preview, with Microsoft planning to experiment and refine the assistant based on user feedback. Once added to a Windows 10 system, users can launch Copilot by clicking the Copilot icon on the taskbar. They can then open a chat window to type in queries or use voice interactions.
However, it’s important to note that not all Copilot functionality will be available in Windows 10, such as opening apps or customizing preferences. The preview release of Copilot in Windows 10 will be available in specific global markets, starting with North America, parts of Asia, and South America.
Systems running Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions of Windows 10 will not be part of the Copilot rollout with the November non-security preview update. IT admins can prepare for Copilot on Windows 10 by referring to the guidance provided on the “Manage Copilot in Windows” support page.
This announcement confirms previous reports of Microsoft’s plans to expand Copilot’s user reach by integrating it into Windows 10 desktops. With Copilot becoming more accessible, users can look forward to a smarter and more intuitive Windows experience.
